Insane Peacock Bass Bite | Surprise Freshwater Tarpon in the Southwest FL canals!
Late summer storms and increase water levels, means the freshwater canals are flowing with water. This opens opportunities for some excellent freshwater fishing and also some surprise visits from a few of our saltwater neighbors!
On this early September day we decided to launch in the morning hours and our plan was to get on some peacock bass. It didn’t take more than 5 minutes for our first fish to hit, and afterwards the bite kept getting better and better.
After landing the first peacock bass of the trip, the next one didn’t take too long. Shortly after a massive topwater strike from what was thought to be a tarpon or snook, actually ended up being a monster peacock bass. It’s incredible how aggressive and powerful these fish are. They absolutely put your gear to the test.
As the morning progress the bite continued to be strong. After catching a few more fish, we got a surprise hit from one of the most elusive saltwater trophy gamefish the tarpon.
This tarpon put on a great fight and took a great amount of patience and technique to land this fish on extremely light tackle. But after a few minutes we were finally able to land the tarpon and successfully release it to fight another day!
It was an incredible experience to watch Daynet succeed at landing this magnificent fish! The day was packed with peacock bass and this tarpon was the icing on the cake. You never know what you’re gonna find when you’re fishing the Southwest Florida canals, thats one of the many things that makes our Peacock Bass Kayak Fishing Charters so unique and exciting!
