Beach Snook Fishing

Beach Snook Fishing in Southwest Florida | Gulf Coast Beaches

One of my favorite things to do during the summer month’s is to target snooks off the beaches. This time of year you’ll see hundreds of snooks moving into our Gulf and Atlantic beaches. This makes for an excellent opportunity to target them on both fly and spin tackle.

On this particular day we fished offshore during the early morning hours and had very little action, so we decided to head back in and hang out on the beach. I had a live-well filled with whitebait, so it was perfect for some snook fishing off the beach. The weather conditions were also ideal which provided excellent sight fishing conditions.

After walking around for just a couple minutes I was seeing a few small ones, and an occasional slot size fish. Having a good pair of polarized sunglasses makes a huge difference when trying to find these fish. I came upon a small school of bait fish so I pitch my live bait behind the school and got slammed by a solid 25 inch snook. The fun part about snook fishing off the beach is how easy they are to catch on light tackle. On the beach they don’t have any structure they can break you off on, so it makes it very enjoyable to catch.

Overall we ended up catching a few snooks, all about the same size. This is something that absoultey anyone can do, its very accessible and they are quite easy to catch with the right tackle.
