Rare Inshore Permit In Southwest Florida | Inshore Kayak Fishing Charter
Had the pleasure of guiding Mike from Illinois out on the Sanibel Flats for a morning of inshore kayak fishing. This time of year you have no idea what you’ll find in the inshore waters of Southwest Florida. That’s one of the many reasons why fishing here is so exciting. Mike got in contact with me to experience kayak fishing for the first time. Being a “boat angler”, he was excited to learn the ins and outs of kayak fishing. Apart from fishing we planned on devoting time to technique and tips on kayak fishing and kayaking in general.
The morning began with some topwater action, the trout and ladyfish were crushing on the surface! Shortly after that, we move to the grass flats in search of other species! After working the flats and catching a few trout, Mike gets a hard hit and instantly the drag starts screaming. Making a few hard runs, I instantly thought a small bonnethead shark took the bait. But after a few minutes of playing tug of war with the fish, we finally see a glimpse of shinny sliver. That’s when Mike and I saw for the first time what we couldn’t believe, Permit on the inshore flats of Southwest Florida!
This was definitely a unique catch for our inshore waters! Many anglers that target permit in these parts of Florida focus on the inshore wrecks but very rarely do we get to see them on the inshore flats. This was an absolute trophy catch for Southwest Florida. Afterwards we continued to work the flats in search of more inshore species!
Overall it was a very productive day out on the water! Mike had an incredible time catching a mix of inshore species and enjoying the wonderful weather that Southwest Florida has to offer.
